Las Vegas Motor Speedway was the first superspeedway to be built in southwestern United States in than 20 years. It was constructed as a 1.5-mile tri-oval with 12-degree banking in the turns, 3-degree banking on the 1,572-foot backstretch and 9-degree banking on the 2,275-foot front stretch.
Before the 2007 racing season the speedway's banking was raised from 12 to 20 degrees and the pit road was moved 275 feet closer to the grandstands. The new 20-degree banking in the turns has increased speeds, and in response NASCAR threw a wild card into the mix: smaller fuel cells to increase the number of pit stops in a race. <... (show more)
